Master Hermes Paying Respects...

    The origin of  Pay Respects...

When Grandmaster Tino was developing the art of Lima Lama, he did not believe in bowing to an opponent, as students do in other martial arts. His reasoning was that men should bow only to God, not each other. Still, a gesture was needed to show respect to the opponent. Hence, Grandmaster Tino implemented the Pay Respects move you see Master Hermes demonstrating above.

The move is actually a right block, a left bock, and a heel of palm strike done quickly, with feet the together. It is done  before and after all belt sets, and once at the beginning and end of class. Also at  the end of class, students shake hands with each other and the instructors.
